President RPI Outing Club 1980's - we did a lot of caving and were a cave rescue center up North. Started caving in and around Huntsville in the mid 80's. Favorite memory - a 600' drop in a Georgia cave!

Thank you for the inspiration.....you opend the door to my heart.

I remember TAG when we made up the name. I was caving out of Auburn and my parents house in Huntsville back in the late 1960's. I also remember the repell equipment before the rack was developed. I had a device called a rapell hook which we renamed the "death hook" after breaking one! I also remember being the first to crawl into Engle double from the bottom..... Wes

I live in CA but I'm from E. TN and did a lot of caving there. Was on the Smokey Mtn Grotto. Great site. Thanks for refreshing the memories.

If you check the register that is (or was) in the large room at the end of Iron Hoop Cave, you should find my name, Ellen Jenkins, Marv Jenkins' ex. I would like to be named on your web site as having been there. I remember that cave distinctly. We had to crawl in water for what seemed hours; then we entered into hugh room and headed to the right. Marv almost got stuck in a narrow passage. We were with 3 other cavers. One of them was Dave something. It was in 1989 or 1990. Can't believe it was so long ago.

Enjoyed the memories. Lots of familiar names and places. Some of my most pleasent memories were on TAG weekends. Great job! Jim Lawrence Formen Nashville Grotto Former NSS #20803

Was searching for "Angels Among Us" and found your fantastic web site. My brother in law was a fireman (volunteer) who passed away from cancer. The Fireman's creed was red at his funeral. To see both beautiful pieces on one web site is very inspiring
![]()
Made me want to get the hell out of maryland, stop caving crap caves in west virginia and start doing something real like you guys do all the time. scott hollow ant got shit on any of these caves hell hole cave is just a divit in a cow field. after seeing were Fantastic pit is thats my new goal and dream to do. for all people that dont just talk about caving and who dont just go caving, but to all that would have no reason for a life without a pit, sqwees or the thouht of an unseen room or even better a cave stay up and be easy. Live to cave cave to live..... Peace.

I will never forget...

I love your site and think it is a beautiful dedication not only to those fallen heroes of 911, but to all fallen heroes who have given their precious lives in the line of duty. Nothing could be more appropriate than "Alabama's Angels Among Us" for this site or for the rememberance of our fallen heroes.
![]()
I thought this was great. Firefighters and police officers should have a lot more things like this for them. This web site really touched me.
![]()
Thanks for this wonderful page. I just lost a friend, and your site helped me. Thanks

I love that song and it says just what my heart thinks. I know there are angels among us. I have felt their presence many times. God is so good and without his love and the care of his angels this world would be an even sadder place. Thankyou for your song.

It was good to read thoughts of another Alabama caver this evening. Not many people remember Bill Cuddington any more. I caved out of Birmingham in the 1960.s and was president of the Birmingham Grotto and SERA at that time. I too have fond memories of Guffey, Tumbling Rock and many more. Am glad that you put some thoughts down on a web site, and am even more glad that as a metter serendipity that I chose to investigate the IMAGES SECTION of Google and find your ramblings. Sincerely, Mike Cram

I am only 16 and everday i realize how much one event can impact our lives for ever. One song a moment or one drastic event. Firefighters are there when everyone else goes running out i do not understand it. I know that without theses everyday heros our lives would be very different

i highly appreciate those who make caving web sites. i know that some of the best caves are closely guarded because of the dangers and vandalism. while attending college at western kentucky university i was an intern at mammoth cave and i learned to respect the caves and their ecosystem. i hope by contacting you i can find some awesome caves as well as make some new friends. please contact me by email so i can find some caving organizations to join. thank you.

Hello Robert! It's been a long time since we've talked! I always enjoy seeing your page and the way it keeps getting better and better! I hope you don't mind that I included it as a link on my page http:spaces.msn.com/members/jstorbakken/ I think that alot of my friends will find it useful and/or fun! I see that you're still busy teaching SCUBA. How great! I wish that I had more chances to get out and do that here, but Beijing is sort of land locked and there is very little to see underwater around here! Thanks for all the great info and hope to hear from you in future!

Robert, You may be old and 'Crumbly' but then again, aren't most caves? I thoroughly enjoyed your thoughts and musings on the home page and felt a deep sense of friendship with you even though, through the fog of munerous beers, brats, and boreholes, I can't recall meeting you. If we have met and I still can't recall it, I am the poorer man. Thanks again. Cave Deep, or don't cave at all, The Dirtman

Just ran across this site and was interested if there is anyone still there related to a Mamie Wooten, she married a Hargrove also from there. She was my great-grandmother. Her childrens names are Pauline, Luther, J.D. and Bud Hargrove and Edith Henderson. All but Edith have passed away now but I know they use to come to Ft. Payne for family reunions. I believe the moved around Brinkley Ark around 1930. Any info would be great. Thanks
